I can't believe it has been a month since I arrived in this beautiful country. The past four weeks have gone by so quickly yet each day seems to contain more than 24hrs. It's a strange thing to write but it's true and people on the ship will say the same, weeks go fast but days are slow. I have loved my time here so far and am excited to see what the next 3 months will hold, what I'll learn, who I'll meet and how I'll continue to grow in God.
I feel truly blessed to be here, blessed by you all for supporting this adventure, blessed by the loving arms who have welcomed me aboard the ship and blessed by God to have time to serve his people but also be refreshed in doing so. I look after patients, work closely with people from all over the world, laugh with friends and spend time dwelling with my Heavenly Father which is just wonderful, however I am missing home. The cold winter spell of log fires, pjs and Goddaughter snuggles is lacking. I know however that April will come around all too fast so I’m not thinking about it too much and just sending love back home from Africa!
This week the hospital has been busy with new people being orientated around the ship and getting used to their different roles. I have been on the wards working and also in the office utilising my new found skill of scanning and shredding patient files!
I’ve been looking after a variety of patients this week, some orthopaedic cases, some general surgery and also cleft pallet patients. Due to this mixture of surgical operations I have been looking after adults as well as children. I’m not an adult nurse by trade however thought it would be similar to my paediatric role. How wrong was I?! Adults are a much tougher audience to crack. For some reason balloons, bubbles and farting just doesn’t cut it for them and spilling yoghurt on their gown as you feed them isn't appreciated...
Looking forward to being back on my ward this week!
Today I was blessed with some time off so we went to a nearby island to explore, soak up the sun and chill out (I maybe spent too long soaking up the rays) #lookinglikealobster
My evening was spent covered in after sun and hiding my face from people during the church service...
I'll try to write again soon, thanks again for your love, support and prayers! Bring on week five! x
