It's week 11 of my time here in Africa and what an adventure it's been so far. I was hoping to give you an update full of stories from the hospital, ship life and Conakry however I was once again struck with illness and have spent eight days lying in my bunk feeling sorry for myself.
Everyday the chaplaincy team visit our patients and spend time with them singing, dancing and praising God. One of the fave songs is as follows - “Mon Dieu il est bon, mon Dieu il est bon, mon Dieu il est bon, il est bon pour moi.” — This song is simple, catchy, gets stuck in your head. This morning I’ve only just realised how truly beautiful the song is.
It’s been a long week of being poorly with a virus resulting in flu like symptoms, dizziness and being cabin bound again. I’ve struggled to see any positives among feeling sick and frustrated, but today God showed me once again how He’s been working all things for my good and His glory. I’ve once more been abundantly blessed by my ship family and family across the seas. They’ve been looking after me, bringing me fluids and pills when needed, sending prayers and love and cheering me on. I’ve also learnt valuable lessons about patience, trust and that Jesus is my calm in the storm.
So however your Monday morning is going, whether you’re in an African or an English hospital, feeling poorly or well, sad or happy, struggling or thriving, I’d like to encourage you that we can and should always be singing “Mon Dieu il est bon!” - My God is good ❤️
