Thanks to my little bro Daniel for posting yesterday’s update due to my lack of WiFi/organisation. Love that you gave yourself a little shout out about my epic blog site ;)

The 4am alarm wasn’t the most welcome noise this morning and it took a lot of will power to move out of the cosy warm cocoon of duvet and into the frosty bitter morning that awaited.

Once we’d been stopped by the police whilst driving, walked the 5mile hike to the correct terminal, and got confused with queuing systems, Eli successfully delivered me to the airport! #pengchauffeur

Flight passes printed, baggage checked in and goodbyes said there was nothing left to do but board the plane.

My first flight was very smooth, quick and uneventful. Only strange thing to report was a young girl deciding to stare at me silently crying until I stopped crying at which point she thankfully lost interest in me and the scene I’d begun to cause by my snotty sniffles.

The second flight safe to say was a bit longer than the first (by 6hours) and a little more eventful...

My ropey bit of french had got me through customs, security and onto the plane just fine and I was feeling pretty smug I’d managed so far without using a single word of English. Well they do say pride comes before a fall and what ensued next was a cascade of events which left me feeling more embarrassed than smug.

To summarise the events for you, the gentleman next to me tried to move seats away from me, I ended up eating spinach and mustard smash (packet potato) because I forgot the word for vegetables and my foot became entangled and then trapped in another passenger’s reclining chair. Was grateful when it was time to disembark from the aircraft.

Moving swiftly on, I arrived on African soil and was collected by a lovely crew member who bustled us into a car and onto the ship. I was shown my way around the vessel, had a beautiful photograph taken of my weary bed headed visage and given more information than I could remember.

The key things are, I now know where my bed is and where the fridge is located so I think I’m all set for now...

And with that I wish you all bonne nuit! x
